The expansion project (Blocks B25 and B27) of China Mobile Hohhot Intelligent Computing Center, the world’s largest single intelligent computing center operated by a telecom carrier, has been successfully completed in Horinger New District, Hohhot.
Constructed by China State Construction Third Engineering Bureau, it serves as a landmark initiative under China’s national East-to-West Computing Transfer programme and a core hub of China Mobile’s “4+N+31+X” computing network framework.
With a contract value of RMB 2.7 billion and a building area of around 44,500 sq.m., the project delivers an IT power capacity of 120MW. Adopting cutting-edge cold-plate liquid cooling technology, the facility follows the principles of low-carbon operation and independent controllability to build high-efficiency AI infrastructure. Once fully operational, the total computing power will reach 20,100P, including 16,700P of AI computing capacity. Renewable power accounts for 88% of its energy supply. Leveraging the 400G OTN backbone network, one-way transmission latency from Hohhot to Beijing is only 3.5 milliseconds, and roughly 90% of its computing resources will serve the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region for large model training and AI inference workloads.
Industry commentators note that the completion of this expansion substantially boosts the capacity of China’s northern national computing hub, improves nationwide unified resource orchestration, and eases the tight domestic supply of AI computing power to underpin the growth of digital economy and artificial intelligence sectors. Endowed with abundant renewable energy, Inner Mongolia continues to absorb computing demands from eastern China and emerges as a key growth engine in the global computing landscape.
